Legendary Climbs of the Giro d'Italia 2015 Part 1

Greetings from "Where God takes His Vacations"! (The Dolomites)

Above you see our group posed before the start of the first ride. (l-r) Brent, Jennifer, Heather, Jeff, Kim and Craig.

Above Craig poses with a cold one atop Passo Erbe. We all suffered under the same heatwave baking the Tour further north.

But that didn't stop us from enjoying Hotel Putia's famous "Cena Ladina" (clockwise from left) Lillian, Heather, Craig, Kim, Jennifer, Jeff and Brent.

After a good night's sleep we awoke to this beautiful sunrise...but rain was soon falling. Nothing serious until most of us had arrived in Cortina d'Ampezzo, but then it came down in buckets, including some hail.

The benefit for us was cooling things off and once the storm moved on, leaving us one of the most gorgeous days we've seen up here. Above you see Brent, Jeff and Larry posing atop Passo Giau. Both Larry and Heather are WAY short of any sort of cycling condition, but are proving "gearing and attitude" can get most any cyclist up these climbs.

Heather shot this photo of the Passo Falzarego, one of our favorite climbs in this region as she rode up the Passo Valparola to lunch.

Kim and Craig started their lunch off with a birra (or two) before we enjoyed regional dishes like goulasch zuppa or spaetzel with speck and cream. A long descent allowed for good digestion before the final "sting in the tail" climb to our lodging for the next two nights. Tonight we'll enjoy Tirolean specialties in the bier stube before dinner.
