Caltagirone

We rented a Fiat 500 last weekend and headed off to Agrigento via a scenic route which took us through Caltagirone. We had a look at the famous ceramic staircase but our real mission was to enjoy pranzo at Il Locandiere, an Osteria d'Italia (SlowFood) recommendation. They did not steer us wrong as we enjoyed a series of tasty and unusual antipasti and two "first" plates as part of a special fixed-price lunch menu. Our waiter suggested an excellent local white wine to go with everything. Here are some photos from the day. We went on from here to Piazza Armerina and Agrigento...more on that next time.

  1. Hi, Larry

I finally got in touch with my cousin Lori. She said that my grandmother is from the town of Villarosa in Enna. Seems to be in the center of Sicily. Are you ever up that way?

    cheers,
    Khal

    1. The coldest place in Sicily that's not at the top of Etna (unless you're talking inside the volcano of course)is Enna. We won't be going there anytime soon as it's COLD here, just like the rest of Italy these days. We drove through there once many years ago, we might make our way back, who knows?
