More pedala forte and mangia bene

A gorgeous spring weekend found us on the bikes again for our longest ride yet in Sicily, 85 kms around a peaceful and scenic loop up into the inland hills. We felt good enough to return by a longer route along the sea besides our now ceremonial lap around the island of Ortigia, complete with a pass through the Piazza Duomo. We were hungry enough to be up for a full course, late pranzo and a bottle of 3-glass award winning Mille e una Notte from Donnafugata. We began with antipasti of Heather's homemade caponata, a wedge of tricotta (a baked ricotta) and a few slices of Prosciutto di Parma. Next was rosemary risotto with strips of pancetta layered over the top, while our second plate was lamb and potatoes roasted with more fresh rosemary grabbed by Heather from the roadside while on the bike ride. An evening stroll and gelato cone took the place of dinner. We're really liking it here but time is getting short. We're off to see Paris-Roubaix at the weekend.
